ALPINE LAKES

Brilliant blue water that sparkles in the sun. Craggy cliffs with a fresh dusting of snow. Forests that have some of our oldest trees. A wonderland of mountains and water, the Alpine Lakes Wilderness contains nearly 400,000 acres of protected land in Washington State. I hike and paint here nearly every year, and yet have barely scratched the surface.

This page shares snippets from my painting trips here. It is my hope that they might be little windows into a landscape that is not only incredibly beautiful, but also impacted by the shifting patterns of climate change and high use from human visitors.

The paintings on the permits below represent the footprints of one visitor. We all must do our part to protect these beautiful places and always follow leave no trace principles.
